#MusicMonday: 16-22 January 2017

Is it just us or is it about time winter bid us its long-awaited farewell?

The bitter cold, the endless (and we mean endless) snow, the bad mood everyone appears to have adopted… Yes, yes, we know, winter isn’t necessarily the greatest season of them all, but it isn’t all bad. It’s often the time bands hunker down in the studio and work on new music, which is always a good thing. It’s also the time when some of the year’s most anticipated music gets released because our faves know we need some cheering up. And you know what? This winter has been no different.

As It Is – Okay.

Easily one of the most anticipated releases of the year, As It IsOkay. is finally out for the world to hear and boy, is it everything we hoped it would be and more. If you’re looking for some upbeat pop-punk that smashes the pop and doesn’t skimp on the punk, you need look no further than this release. If you weren’t a fan of the band prior to this, you definitely will be after you give it a listen.

Don’t believe us? Maybe our review will sway your opinion.

Slaves – ‘I’d Rather See Your Star Explode’

Attention: Slaves are back. We repeat: Slaves are back.

Slaves have had a bit of a bumpy journey since they lost all their members, broke up and returned to the scene one month later with a lineup of three. They’ve been hard at work in the studio ever since working to prove to the scene that everything they’ve gone through has only worked to strengthen their resolve, and you know what? If their new single doesn’t prove that then we don’t know what will.

The Maine – ‘Bad Behaviour’

We don’t think we can put into words how excited we were to hear new music from The Maine. We might have even started crying, but we won’t confirm or deny it. We have an image to upkeep!

‘Bad Behaviour’ is the lead single off the band’s upcoming album and it’s quintessential The Maine. From John O’Callaghan’s vocals to the guitar-led instrumentation, it’s almost guaranteed you’ll fall in love with this track. We know we did.

Northlane – ‘Intuition’

Australian post-hardcore outfit Northlane have returned with their new single ‘Intuition’. A heavy and fast track that brings about the best the band has to offer, it’s definitely bound to be a hit with Northlane fans old and new.

We don’t know what it is about Australia, but it always seems to produce some of the best bands in the scene!

John Mayer – The Search For Everything – Wave One EP

We’re not going to lie, we’ve kind of had an on-again, off-again relationship with John Mayer over the years. We absolutely adored Battle Studies and Heavier Things, but we couldn’t really vibe with Born and Raised. This is why we’re stoked to be in love with his new EP!

Wave One is the first batch of songs off of Mayer’s upcoming album and from the sounds of it, it looks like he’s returning to his roots, which we know fans are going to love. His voice melds well with the music, and it’s so easy listening that we’re not quite sure you can get any more easy listening… Does that make sense?
